Special Education AdvocacyUnder Federal Law, every child is entitled to a “free and appropriate” public education. However, just what constitutes “appropriate” education for your child is frequently a subject of disagreement between parents and their local school district. In these times of diminished tax revenues and budget caps, when educational resources are stretched tighter than ever, school districts are feeling the need to economize on special services for children who have unique individual needs. In order to obtain an “appropriate” education for your child, you may need to fight with the school district for them to provide the different or extra services your child needs to succeed in school. Having an experienced advocate assisting and guiding you in this process can level the playing field and ensure your child will be provided the educational services he or she needs. I act as parents’ advocate in CSE meetings and 504 planning and review meetings. When necessary, I represent parents in legal proceedings to challenge decisions made by the school district that negatively affect your child. |
